Basically, we make stuff. And this is what we came up with. So enjoy our site, tell a friend (only if you like it), and remember: "No one accomplished anything without not doing anything about something they hadn’t done."
History
In 1996, a small group of self-proclaimed comedians gathered in Columbus, Ohio to record their "radio drama" sketches on the most sophisticated tape player they could find. It was the eve of the Internet revolution. "I do believe this interweb will be quite a thing," said one. "Oh, yes indeed," agreed another. So they set to the task, to learn this thing known cryptically as "HTML" and this other manifestation referenced in the ancient texts as "Javascript". Combining their powers, they formed...CAPTAIN PLANET! er...I mean...a webpage. The page needed a name. And so did this group. It was decided that "Dead Puppet Productions" would be proclaimed proudly throughout the halls of cyberspace. Dead Puppet created trillions of hours of recorded content, but like Saturday Night Live, only 1 out of 100 skits really ever needed to be heard again. It is rumored that Dead Puppet’s only album "The Best of Radio" still survives to this day. It is unknown whether these skits that have nearly been lost to the depths of time will ever resurface.
Time passed. And in 1998 several founders of Dead Puppet Productions moved on to form Twilight Productions. The emphasis this time was entirely different. Twilight’s vision was to reignite interest in live theater. Many original skits and full-length plays were written and preformed by the Twilight cast. Among them were "The Radio Station", "UA 2047", "Burning Souls", and "What’s Next?". Twilight Productions continued to produce plays, donating its proceeds to charities such as Habitat for Humanity and Take-It-To-The-Streets. Twilight plays and skits have been preformed in high schools and community theaters across the country.
2001 marked the return of the founders to audio sketches. This time, however, the goal was ever more ambitious. They endeavored to create a streaming online radio station. This station, entitled "The Strobe", would be a hodgepodge of techno music, audio sketches and a ridiculously insane "morning show". For both days that "The Strobe" was live, it was a success. You see, the founders failed to account for the massive amount of bandwidth necessary to maintain such incredibly popular programming. The original recordings of The Strobe have thus been sealed in a secret archived time capsule so that when it is opened by an alien race in 1,000 years, they will be both offended and confused.
But "The Strobe" left its mark. So much music had been created for the station that it seemed a horrible waste to never play it again. Thus, in the ladder-half of 2001, a founder took the artist name of Zephyr and created Zephyr Labs. It was to be "an online repository of creative works". The vision shifted closer to that of media distribution. Electronica albums were made including, "Tiger Star" in 2003 and "Sapphire Ice" in 2005.
It was then that the founders decided to unite the many visions fluttering about. If only a single site could take all the creative works and combine them into one gigantic entity...it would be the beginning of something pretty freaking cool. And on December 1st, 2005, Max Damage Studios was born. Like a butterfly emerging from its cocoon to greet an ice storm. But that really has nothing to do with the story. It was more like an equally ridiculous metaphor that confuses the reader as much as it engages them. In any case, Max Damage Studios was quick to begin its work in the area of machinima. Using Guild Wars as a playground, MDS created several short features that served as the anchor for the new website, MaxDamage.net.
In 2006, MDS expanded into computer games, creating a remake of Missile Command using Microsoft's XNA. Movies, however, remained the staple of content. After several live action projects which included a parody of "While You Were Out" and a mocumentary in the style of the History channel, MDS returned to machinima to create its 10th Guild Wars machinima film in mid-2007.
